Yungbae Yang is well known, worldwide as a gifted baritone. This past year he has decided that his voice is best suited to performing as a tenor. He feels that this is a positive direction along with a new name which is Moses Yungbae Yang, tenor. He completed his fourth year as a resident artist at The Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.
As a baritone he made his debut with the 'Dallas Opera' and 'Singapore Lyric Opera' as Figaro in Il Babiere di Siviglia and Ping in Turandot with Boheme Opera. During the 05/06 season, he sang in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Salomé, and Don Giovanni with Opera Company of North Carolina, La Fanciulla del West with the Tampa Bay Opera.
His roles at AVA include Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor, Ford in Falstaff, Valentin in Faust, Frank in Edgar, David in L’amico Fritz, Robert in Iolanta, and Petrucci in Lucrezia Borgia. He portrayed Byn-satto in the Korean opera Choonhyang-jun with the Philadelphia Korean Musicians Association in 2002, and has also portrayed the role of Belcore in L’elisir d’amore. In 2004, Mr. Yang was a soloist in Beethoven’s No. 9 Symphony with Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in Washington.
He was a New York District winner in the 2003 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, 1st place winner of the Marian Anderson Competition in 2004, winner of the Liederkranz Foundation Award 2004, Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Award 2005, Zachary Vocal Competition National Finalist 2005, and a 2nd place winner in the Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition and the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition.
He is a native of Busan, Korea and now lives in Philadelphia with his wife and two children. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from Hanyang University in Seoul, Korea.
